UNION OF GHANA ASIA TRADERS ASSOCIATION – BYLAWS
Chapter 1
General
Article 1: Name
1.1This association is established under the laws of the Republic of Ghana and shall be
known as the Union of Ghana Asia Traders Association.
Article 2: Motive
2.1The Union of Ghana Asia Traders Association is organized to promote commercial,
economic, educational, tourist and cultural ties between the Republic of Ghana and Asia
countries to advance the general welfare and prosperity of businesses and citizenry of
Asia countries.
Article 3: Area
3.1 The association ( UGATA ) shall serve the Republic of Ghana and some Asian countries.
Chapter 2
Membership
Article 4: Registration
4.1 Any person, corporation, partnership, association or other organization having interest in
the objectives of the Union of Ghana Asian Traders Association shall be eligible to apply
for membership. Corporations, partnerships, associations or other organizations must have
been legally established for a period of not less than six months in order to be
eligible for membership.
4.2 The Annual Dues for members of the association shall be in U.S dollars or cedis at a rate
or rates prescribed by the governing body of the association.
4.3 The Annual Dues for members shall be collected by the association the 1st of January in
every year.
4.4 Applicant shall become a member after payment of the regularly scheduled dues as
provided by the association.
4.5 Any member that want to resign from the Association must write a resignation letter to the
governing body of the Association.
Chapter 3
Article5: Board of Directors.
5.1 President. The President shall preside at Business Meetings of the Association,
shall chair and attend all meetings of the Association, and shall appoint member to committees
where authorized. He shall be responsible for the supervision, control and direction of the
Association, and shall manage the affairs of the Association in accordance with the provisions of
the Association governing documents. The President, Executive Secretary and the Treasurer shall
also be responsible for the preparation of an operating budget covering all activities of the
Association. The President, Executive Secretary and the Council of Elders shall be responsible for
hiring, discharging, directing and supervising all employees of the Association.
5.2 Executive Secretary. The Executive secretary shall act in place of the President when the President
is not available. The Executive secretary shall also serve as the vice chair and attend all meetings of
the Association and shall manage the affairs of the Association in accordance with the
provisions of the Association governing documents.
5.3 Secretary. The Secretary shall attend and prepare notices, agendas for all meetings of the
Association and serve as secretary at all meetings. The Secretary shall keep the minutes for the
Association at all meetings.
5.4 Treasurer. The Treasurer shall monitor the funds of the Association, assist in preparation
of the Association’s annual budget and be responsible for report periodically to the Board,
provide monthly and annual financial report to the Board of the Association. The Treasurer shall
be responsible for the safeguarding of all funds received by the Chamber and for their proper
disbursement.
5.5 Head-Protocol and Event. Shall handle all the ceremonial activities and marking the
arrival of foreign functionaries of the Association. Shall be responsible for making phone calls
to facilitate members and dignitaries’ travel plans.
Chapter 4
Article 6: Meetings
6.1 Annual Meeting. The Annual Meeting of the Association shall be held on the second
week of December in every year. The time and place shall be fixed by the Board and
members shall be contacted by phone call or mailed to at least ten (10) days before said
meeting.
6.2 Other Meetings. Other meetings shall be called at the discretion of the President at
anytime.
